La Certosa di Pavia

The construction of the Certosa di Pavia began in 1396 at the initiative of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Duke of Milan. It features a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, and its façade is truly remarkable! Within its grounds, there are other artistic treasures, including the Ducal Chapel, the Grand Cloister (one of the largest in Europe), the Courtyard of Honor, and the richly appointed Museum of the Certosa. Since 1998, it has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The Big Benches

They are called “Big Benches” and are the result of a project conceived by Chris Bangle. Initially launched in Piedmont in 2009, the project has spread throughout the entire national territory, boasting four benches in the province of Pavia and three in the Oltrepò Pavese, from where you can enjoy a stunning view of the vineyards in Retorbido, Codevilla, and Calvignano.

The wineries

The Oltrepò Pavese is a region rich in viticultural history, with an impressive 12,500 hectares of vineyards. On the hills of Oltrepò, the most representative grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Croatina, Barbera, and Riesling. However, we can also mention Uva Rara, Vespolina, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Cortese Bianco, Moscato, Malvasia, and even Müller-Thurgau. All that’s left is for you to come and discover YOUR wine!

Most beautiful villages in Italy

If you’re looking for a bit of relaxation and want to spend a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Oltrepò Pavese hides gems that are part of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. Golferenzo, with its ancient medieval village, is truly enchanting. Zavattarello is dominated by the Dal Verme Castle, which is worth a visit. Fortunago boasts its iconic tower, while Varzi features the Malaspina Castle, known for its tower, also referred to as the “Witches’ Tower.”
